Ciclopica: Great Sculpture from Rodin to Giacometti
Ex Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi, Syracuse, 27th March – 30th October 2019
An 8-month exhibition of sculpture with pieces ranging from a 16th-century head of Buddha from China to examples of Henry Moore’s curvaceous masterpieces.
The Cultural Heritage Festival
4th October – 3rd November 2019 (Palermo and Catania); 4th – 20th October 2019 (Modica and Ragusa)
Le Vie dei Tesori 2019 will take place in 8 weekends between September and November; Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It starts on September 13 with ten cities, for three weekends, until September 29: Acireale, Caltanissetta, Marsala, Messina, Naro, Noto, Sciacca, Sambuca, Siracusa, Trapani. On October 4, the baton passes to Palermo, Catania, Ragusa, Modica and Scicli which will become a big extended museum until Sunday, Nov 3. From the salt marshes of western Sicily to the splendours of the Baroque in Val di Noto, Arab-Norman itinerary to Palermo at the treasures hidden in the heart of the Island.
Zafferana Etnea (Mount Etna), each Sunday in October 2019
Five Sundays, five sagre, each one dedicated to a classic autumnal speciality produced on Mount Etna: the sagra dell’uva (grapes and wine); the sagra del miele (honey); the sagra delle mele (apples); the sagra dei funghi (mushrooms); and the sagra delle castagne (chestnuts).
Ragusa Ibla, 10th – 13th October 2019
Ragusa hosts the 25th edition of Ibla Buskers, the festival dedicated to street artists, acrobats, jugglers, actors, tightrope walkers, magicians and illusionists. Their performances take place in the baroque district of Ibla, one of the two quarters of the historic city centre. For four days, children and grown-ups can admire the amazing performances of theater companies and artists from all over the world.

Ragusa Ibla, 18th – 20th October 2019
For a few days towards the end of October, the long flight of steps connecting upper Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla becomes a temple to taste and a celebration of Ragusa’s agricultural pedigree. Visitors can taste olives and olive oil, cheeses, wine, grapes, Indian figs, citrus fruits, and almonds, and learn about the area’s farming history.
Modica, 31st October – 3rd November 2019
This is the festival of the most known Sicilian chocolate. It is one of the most awaited events in Sicily. The European Union recognized the Modican chocolate as an authentic PGI product. Moreover, it has very ancient origins. Spanish people introduced it in Sicily a very long time ago, but they inherited this specialty from Aztec population. ChocoModica also includes conferences, events, games, concerts, workshops and guided tours of the city of Modica. There won’t be only tourists and visitors, but also chocolate producers who will explain about the secrets of artisan production, experts in the field and historians. Of course, there will be tastings and various stands where people can buy typical chocolate products. The event is the perfect opportunity to learn, spend time eating excellent chocolate and visit the town of Modica.
Agrimontana – I Sapori degli Iblei
Palazzolo Acreide, 19th – 20th October 2019
Every year Palazzolo Acreide hosts the traditional Agrimontana – I Sapori degli Iblei. An important event for food and wine lovers of the Monti Iblei area. Stands and tastings propose the products of the rich local gastronomy, first of all the Palazzolo sausage, now a Slow Food presidium. Of course, there is no lack of fresh mushrooms from the Hyblean area, honey, local walnuts, cheeses, cured meats and the very sweet zeppole to delight the palate of the most gluttonous. Numerous events liven up the evenings, including exhibitions, conferences and guided tours. Also the traditional Mycological Exhibition is much appreciated by visitors. It allows fans to discover the variety of mushrooms in the area.
